Draft OF Contents Page

My contents page is going to be quite simple but with pictures, others from the front cover, to show what else is in the magazine. I want some bright colours on the text to make the different page numbers stand out. I named my contents page "on the cover" as this makes it more playful and so the reader knows where to find articles they saw on the cover of the magazine. Also there is a picture on this page which adds to the playfulness.

my final magazine desingn

This is my finished magazine cover. I called it "Sussex Downs News" as it shows that it is quite formal and the Sans Serif writing anchors this. But because i didn't want students to think it would be boring i made the rest of the cover quite playful and colourful. For example the beginning of the title is slanted and not completely strait. For the background i used blue as this is a colour which most people like and it may signify calmness. When i want the reader to see certain words i coloured them in bold bright colours so they are eye catching.

In order for students to want to read it I put on possible prizes they could win, this means they will want to find out more. They will see the words "win win win" and then be hooked in to see what it is they could win. I put in stars by this because it makes the "win" stand out more. There is a strip of purple at the top to draw the attention to the writing there, as it is quite small. The font for the rest of the writing is simple and not too formal to
show that it will be easy to read.
Here is my finished Contents page. It is not exactly how i wanted it to be because my first draft was accidently deleted. So it is quite simple as i had limited time to finish it. I again chose a blue background as it is favoured by many people. The bright bold colours make it clearer to the reader as to what's on each page. to add to the simplicity i made gaps in the title and numbers to anchor the connotations of the background. The style of writing is quite friendly and chatty so that the reader will feel at ease.

preliminary task: front cover draft.

This is my first draft for my magazine. I have decided to use the font Sans Serif as it enhances the formal side of the magazine it may also mock the idea of a newspaper. The layout is quite basic but clear to the reader. The picture is big so will be the first thing they see.

preliminary task: photo

This is the picture i have chosen to be on my front cover, we took this photo of a member of staff working at Sussex Downs College. the subject in the photo is in the correct position to successfully be on the front cover as it is medium close up. he is seen from the mid-chest up which is conventional for magazines. Also I have considered how the audience will view the subject the shot is straight on which is the right angle for a magazine. I chose to take a photo of this particular person beacause it shows that there are many different people at Sussex Downs and it also makes the magazine look more fun and interesting.

This was the first photo that was taken. I decided not to use this photo as the subject's eyes are closed and this does not engage correctly with the audience. Although the background is of the college's hallway it is not the ideal mise en scene. It would be better to have a less busy, more simple background to phocus the audience's gaze on the subject.
